TL;DR: the short answer
- The Pag-IBIG Calamity Loan is for members in an area declared under a state of calamity. You can borrow up to 90% of your total Pag-IBIG savings.
- The rate is 5.95% a year, with a three-month grace period and up to three years to pay. Interest still runs during the grace period.
- Apply online through Virtual Pag-IBIG with your application form, one valid ID, a selfie holding the ID and a Pag-IBIG-accepted cash card.
Kapag binaha ang bahay o nasira ang bubong dahil sa bagyo o lindol, kailangan agad ng pera. If you're a Pag-IBIG member and your city or municipality is declared under a state of calamity, the Pag-IBIG Calamity Loan is one of the cheapest places to borrow, because you borrow against your own savings.
This guide covers only the Pag-IBIG Calamity Loan as it stands in October 2026. For the regular Pag-IBIG Multi-Purpose Loan and the SSS Salary Loan side by side, see our Pag-IBIG and SSS loans overview. For the SSS loan that opens nationwide during a national calamity, see the SSS Emergency Loan guide.
PersonalLoans.ph is a comparison website. We're not part of Pag-IBIG Fund, and Pag-IBIG decides who gets the loan. We base this guide on Pag-IBIG announcements published by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and on the Virtual Pag-IBIG portal.
Who qualifies
In its June 2026 announcement through PIA, Pag-IBIG Fund said the Calamity Loan is for members who live or work in an area declared under a state of calamity. The Virtual Pag-IBIG FAQ describes it as a loan for members "whose area of residence is declared under a state of calamity".
In practice that means:
- Your area has to be declared. The local government (sanggunian) or the national government declares a state of calamity. Being affected by a typhoon isn't enough if your area wasn't declared.
- You need posted Pag-IBIG savings, because the amount is based on them. Log in to Virtual Pag-IBIG to see what's been posted.
- Apply while the program is open for your area. Each announcement can come with its own application period, so don't wait.
If your area wasn't declared, the Calamity Loan isn't open to you. PIA reported in November 2024 that Pag-IBIG pointed members in areas without a declaration to the Multi-Purpose Loan instead, which our overview guide explains.
How much you can borrow
Up to 90% of your total accumulated savings with Pag-IBIG, according to the June 2026 PIA announcement. Your savings include your own monthly contributions, your employer's share and the dividends credited to your account.
So the more years you've contributed, the bigger the loan. Someone who just started contributing will qualify for a small amount, even if the damage at home is large.
Interest, term and payments
These come from the June 2026 PIA announcement and the Calamity Loan promissory note terms on Virtual Pag-IBIG:
| Feature | Pag-IBIG Calamity Loan |
|---|---|
| Interest | 5.95% a year |
| Term | 1, 2 or 3 years |
| Grace period | 3 months before your first payment |
| Interest during grace period | Yes, it still runs |
| Payment due date | On or before the 15th of each month |
| Late penalty | 1/20 of 1% of the amount due, per day of delay |
| How payments are applied | Penalties first, then interest, then principal |
The three-month grace period gives you time to fix the house before the hulog starts. Because interest still builds up during those months, your total cost is a little higher than if you started paying right away.
Rough example (our own estimate, not Pag-IBIG's computation): borrow ₱20,000 at 5.95% a year over 24 monthly payments and each payment comes to about ₱886, before counting the interest from the grace period. Your actual amount appears in your loan documents.
Requirements
Virtual Pag-IBIG lists these for a Calamity Loan application:
- Calamity Loan application form. If you're employed, your employer signs it. It also needs two witnesses.
- One valid ID. Pag-IBIG's valid ID list includes the PhilSys National ID, passport, driver's license, UMID, PhilHealth ID and TIN ID, among others. Our valid IDs guide explains each one.
- A selfie holding that ID.
- A cash card where the loan will be credited: a Pag-IBIG Loyalty Card Plus (issued with AUB or UnionBank) or a LandBank Cash Card.
Kung wala ka pang Loyalty Card Plus, ask at a Pag-IBIG branch or one of its partner banks. A missing cash card is one of the easiest ways to delay the release.
How to apply
Pag-IBIG said in June 2026 that members can apply through three channels:
- Virtual Pag-IBIG, the online portal. Type the address yourself and don't log in through a link sent in a chat.
- Pag-IBIG branches.
- Lingkod Pag-IBIG on Wheels, the mobile service units sent to affected areas.
Steps on Virtual Pag-IBIG:
- Log in to Virtual Pag-IBIG and check that your contact details and posted savings are correct.
- Open the short-term loan application and choose Calamity Loan.
- Upload the signed form, your valid ID and your selfie with the ID.
- Enter your cash card details.
- Submit and keep your reference number. Watch your phone for updates.
Other help Pag-IBIG announced in June 2026
In the same June 2026 announcement for members hit by the Mindanao earthquake, Pag-IBIG also said:
- Housing loan borrowers in affected areas could get a one-month moratorium on their housing loan payments.
- The Home Improvement Loan offered up to ₱300,000, payable over up to five years, for repairs.
Those measures were tied to that specific calamity. Check the announcement for your area before you count on them.
Pag-IBIG Calamity Loan vs SSS calamity help
If you're a member of both, you might qualify for more than one loan. Each one has different rules:
| Pag-IBIG Calamity Loan | SSS Calamity Loan | SSS Emergency Loan | |
|---|---|---|---|
| When it opens | Your area is declared under a state of calamity | Your area is declared under a state of calamity | A State of National Calamity or National Emergency is in effect |
| How much | Up to 90% of your Pag-IBIG savings | Set by SSS, check sss.gov.ph | Up to ₱20,000 |

Borrowing from both means two deductions from your sweldo later. Take only what you need to recover.
Watch out for Pag-IBIG loan scams
- You don't need a fixer. You can file the Calamity Loan yourself online or at a branch.
- Never share your Virtual Pag-IBIG password or OTP with anyone who messages you, even if they say they're from Pag-IBIG.
- Ignore pages offering "fast approval" for a fee. Pag-IBIG decides based on your records, and paying an outsider doesn't change that.
If the loan isn't enough and you're thinking about a private lender, start with our emergency loans guide, which lists free help and cheaper options first. Before you borrow from any app, check that it's on the SEC list using our guide on how to check if an online lender is SEC-registered. If you do compare private loans, our comparison page shows each partner's SEC details.
